LAYOUT

Layout is an important aspect of design that sets the overall organization for creating a research poster. Organization is a key factor that is considered when evaluating research posters, based on UNLV GPSA’s evaluation form. When it comes to layout, there is much more to it than just organizing where text and images will be placed. Layout encompasses hierarchy, balance, and text.

WHITE SPACE

Also known as negative space, is not a bad thing. It provides breathing room, it allows for the viewers eyes to rest, and most importantly it allows for individuals to navigate through the poster more easily. This includes having reasonable margins.

Definition
HIERARCHY

Hierarchy refers to the order of importance the information and content is presented in, which can be demonstrated with size, style/weight (bold, underline, italics), and/or color.

Explore the Options

One way to find a great research poster layout is to look up different references and research it. There are many online resources and images, however that does not necessarily mean that the suggestion made by the article you read or the video you watched is the most effective layout. It's good to keep in mind what works and what doesn't. Here is a great website to find more information on these topics. www.makesigns.com/tutorials/poster-design-layout.aspx
